And Then There Was Light…

Finally! After FOUR days of being without electricity due to a storm, our lights have finally been turned back on. As mentioned earlier, this week has been quite an adventure, going without lights, TV, computers, etc…

These last few days in the dark have given me a new perspective on life — and how I will live my life in the future. I will be honest, when the lights first went out, I felt like it was the end of the world. What would I do without my laptop, or my Iphone? You mean to tell me, that for the next days, I will have no internet?! That was bad news. To say that I was bored was an understatement — there was absolutely nothing for me to do.

Then something magical happened. I spent time with my family, free from distractions — free from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, The Bachelor….distraction FREE. This was purely a blessing in disguise. My family and I are very close, and I thank God for them everyday. However, this storm allowed me to realize that we all spend too much time on our electronics. During these four days, we were our own source of entertainment — we talked, we laughed, we sang, we told each other stories of growing up…we just were.

So while I am happy that we finally have our electricity back, I will be honest and say that I am going to miss those four days we spent in the dark. As can be predicted, our lives will get busy, work will get hectic, and TV/cellphones/MP3 players will inevitably get in the way, but at the core of it all is a family that loves each other.

In the future, I would love to take a day — maybe two — to be electronic FREE. A day with no TV, no cellphones, nothing that will take attention away from what truly matters. FAMILY.

Until Next Time,

<3
