Just Lazy…

While on Facebook, I came across a post by a page that encourages curvy girls (like me) to love their bodies regardless of their size. In this particular post, the admin was apologizing for being ‘fake’. While she often posted words of support and strength to her readers, she often felt insecure about her body. After years of struggling with being overweight, newly married and wanting to have children, she decided to undergo gastric bypass.

For the most part, the comments in reply were positive — supporting her in her weight loss journey, etc. But there were a couple of comments that were down right hurtful….and rude. One comment, in particular, said that she is a fraud and that she is simply being lazy — if she just got off her “butt” and exercised, she would lose weight. She’s “Just Lazy”…

I understand that everyone has their own opinions, but as women, when did we get to the point where it is okay to tear others down, regardless of whether or not we agree with each other? When did it become okay to judge others on things that we not understand? Since when has it become appropriate to demean other women?

It’s not okay. Again, I understand that everyone has their opinions. Perhaps I am old-school: raised to believe that if you do not have something ‘nice’ to say, you say nothing at all. I am also raised to believe that words hold power. You never know what someone is going through, or what their struggles are. I would feel horrible knowing that my words purposely caused someone pain.

To keep it short…let’s think before we speak. We do not always have to agree, but we can disagree in a way that is respectful to each other’s feelings.

Until Next Time,
