Make-up REVIEW: Epic Black Mousse Liner by NYX Cosmetics

I am a huge fan of NYX cosmetics, I can not get enough of their brand. In particular, I am obsessed with the Epic Black Mousse Liner. Its light-weight formula is packed with bold color…literally, it has the richest, long-lasting pigment I have ever seen. It is super easy to apply, as it glides on without any problem or having to worry about clumping. What I love the most about this product is it’s matte, waterproof finish. Depending on my mood, I can use this eyeliner for a natural, more defined eye, or I can be daring and try for a bolder look.

Before using the Epic Black Mousse Liner, I used the Noir Liquid Black Liner which is also made by NYX. Of the two, I can truly say that I love the mousse liner the most—they both look great and last for long periods of time, however the Noir liquid liner has a shiny/glossy finish that I’m not overly fond of.

Especially as an African-American female, it is important to have makeup that blends well with your skin-tone, and enhances your beauty. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried an eyeliner only to discover that:

  1. You couldn’t see it against my skin tone
  2. It didn’t #pop. It was too boring

Epic Black Mousse Liner truly delivers! I can trust this eyeliner to pop against my darker skin tone, and to further bring my eyes to life. Now, don’t be put off—the Epic Black Mousse Liner comes in a .123 oz container…it’s really small. But trust me, a lot goes a long way. I’ve been using the same container for almost two months, and I still have plenty to spare. Just a little dab or two of the liner is enough for one eye…and again, the pigment is thick and rich.

In addition to a simple or bold eye line, you can also use the Epic Black Mousse Liner as a #smudger…great for a smokey, mysterious eye. Just a word to the wise, don’t smudge too much—you don’t want to look like you’ve got a black eye…or a raccoon. Aim for a softer effect that will make your eyes look mischievous but glamourous….*cough cough* and sexy.

Some may argue that the Epic Black Mousse Liner is difficult to apply without ‘messing up’, but honestly, what product isn’t if you? Especially if you haven’t practiced or used the item before. This is pretty much standard for any product that you will use—you’ll get better with practice. When I first started using this gel liner, and any eyeliner for that matter, I looked like a hot mess. My eye-lines were jagged, and unintentionally thick on my eye…it looked tacky. But with practice, I was able to figure out the application technique that works best for me.

SIDE-NOTE: I am no make-up artist…although I wish I was. I’m just a girl, trying to figure out the best brands, techniques, etc., to improve how I apply my makeup. We are in this together, and I’m learning just as you are learning.

I literally could brag on and on about this product, it’s that good. But to keep things short, I only have one thing left to say: BUY IT. You’ll love it. I promise. The Epic Black Mousse Liner is so versatile, and you can use it for any occasion. I will never switch to another eyeliner, unless of course it is made by #NYX and it further enhances the already fabulous Epic Black Mousse Liner collection.

Alright owlets, go out and try it! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Until next time,

Maya <3

    1. Hey chickadee! I haven’t tried Inglot yet to be sure, but from searching a bit on the internet id say they’re comparable. There might be a difference in texture or consistency? Maybe I’ll give it a try 😜
