Do you believe in magic? Not in the Harry Potter kind of way, but in the true enchantment of loving life and the people who shape it. These last couple of months have been such a magical season for me. A season of growth, love, fellowship, and most importantly, change.
As we enjoy the remaining parts of the year, I can’t help but reflect on all of the magical moments I’ve experienced. From attending #theCURVYcon, to celebrating my 26th birthday with friends and family, to being vulnerable and taking chances. Doing things that I never thought capable — like bearing my ‘Tiger Stripes‘ for all of you to see. That was probably one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, yet definitely the most freeing.
I’m discovering the magic behind loving myself at every step. Being bold and Taking Chances on the things that are terrifying, but push me into the next season of my life. Taking these pics — and actually sharing them with you — is an example of how I try to do this. I am far more comfortable being behind the scenes than in front of the camera. But I’ve learned that these tiny steps of growth, can be giant leaps. Not only for myself, but for the people who are inspired to take tiny steps of their own. Perhaps addressing my insecurities, can be a band-aid of healing for a little brown girl, who has chubby cheeks and a round tummy, to find her value and worth. Not in the mirage of ‘perfect bodies’ that society defines as beauty, but in herself.
I encourage you all to discover what your ‘why’ is when in terrifying situations. Perhaps it’s in your child, and the example you set for her. Or better yet, perhaps it’s just in yourself…recognizing that facing your fears is the only way to move past them.
So as this season continues to shift from Fall into Winter, I am excited about the growth that’s to come, and all that the New Year is going to bring. I know it’s going to be amazing!
The Outfit
It was such a beautiful weekend, so I decided to wear a gray bodycon dress that I bought from Old Navy. I loved how simple it was, allowing for me to dress it up or down depending on the occasion. It’s a little form fitting (outside of my comfort zone,) but I decided that being uncomfortable with my body is not a good reason to toss it aside. Maybe I would like it later? That’s exactly what happened 🙂
And it just so happened that the day before, I took a trip to my favorite store — Charming Charlie — and found this rose gold purse that I am absolutely obsessed with. Not only is it my favorite color, it is super versatile and I can wear it with just about anything! So I decided to match it with my outfit for the day.
Including this pink scarf that my friend Kristal gave me a couple of years ago. These things together completed my look for the day and was perfect as we transition into colder weather.
The Magic
And speaking of Kristal (lol), I had the greatest time catching up with her this weekend. It’s not every day that you meet someone who quickly crosses the path from friendship to family. She’s my sister…and we fight like it, but I know I can always count on her for her wisdom and her support. She’s one of the many people who contribute to the magic in my life.
We all have magic within us.” — J.K Rowling
I encourage you all to find the magic in your life. In your friends and family. In random acts of kindness for your neighbor. And most importantly, find the magic in yourself. There’s nothing like discovering who you are, embracing your fears, and learning how to see every ‘flaw’ as a mark of beauty.
