Shine Bright, Shine Far

Growing up, I watched the Disney Channel religiously! There was nothing better than turning on the tv, and being excited to watch the latest Disney Channel Movie — Cadet Kelly, The Color Friendship, Brink, the list goes on and on. There is one movie in particular that I think shaped many of our childhoods — Life Size! Who else can hear the theme song just thinking about it? “Shine Bright, Shine Far, Be a Star!”
Back then, these were just words to a catchy tune. Now they take on a whole new meaning. Shine Bright, don’t be afraid to be who you are. Shine Far, don’t be afraid to share that love with others. Be A Star, walk in all your glory.
I realize now, for so long, I’ve been dimming my own light. How? By limiting myself, fearful of how others may view me. Lately I’ve been into wearing bright colors, but it wasn’t too long ago that I kept to wearing only dark colors — navy and black — to hide my body. There’s this myth that plus size bodies shouldn’t wear bright colors, as it brings unnecessary attention to our bodies. I definitely fell victim to this way of thinking, that I am big enough, I don’t need any added attention. However, I’ve learned that this couldn’t be any further from the truth!
Continuing on this journey pushing myself outside my comfort zone, I’ve been pushing myself little by little by trying things such as, *drum roll please*, wearing bright colors! I’ve had a fun time wearing oranges, and greens, and purples, and of course, pinks! I’m starting to discover a new favorite color…red!
Let’s get this straight right now — I will forever, and always, be a pink girl. But this red cold shoulder top is giving me life! I love how the color pops against my skin tone. And I love how this top forced me to be seen and feel confident in who I am, stretch-marks included. I’ve got nothing to hide.
Be A Star
I encourage you to experience this for yourself. You are a star! Don’t be afraid to shine in your light. If you enjoy wearing dark colors, fine. But don’t feel like its something you have to do to conceal your body. Need a little inspiration? Check out a few of my favorite pieces below:
So…what do you think? Are you going to start experimenting with wearing bright colors. If this scares you, no worries! I totally get it. Start off slow, add a bit of color to your wardrobe piece by piece. In all honesty, it isn’t about the color, but how you feel. Always be true to who you are, don’t let anyone or anything stop you from living the life you want to live.
Shine bright, shine far, be a star! Can’t wait to see you shine. Make sure to tag me in your pics so I can show some love!
Always remember, don’t let your mind be your bully. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Go out, and walk in your glory.
