“But sooner or later, the man who wins is the person who thinks he can!”
When I was a child, I read The Little Engine That Could almost every night. Although then I was more fascinated by the pictures, I now hold the book to a whole new appreciation. Most people think The Little Engine That Could is about perseverance — Never giving up on your dreams and aspirations. And it’s true. However, I’ve learned it’s meaning is much deeper.
Speak Your Victory
What I learned most from this story is that you have to speak your victory into action; speak success over your life, and success will happen. Just like The Little Engine That Could, the more we tell ourselves, “I think I can, I think I can,” the further we’ll make it up the ‘hill.’
It won’t always be easy. But I promise you, if you continue to speak words of affirmation over yourself, it will happen….sooner or later. Be patient. I’m constantly reminding myself to be still. I’m the type of person that likes instant gratification. I want what I want when I want it. I’m sure that makes me delusional (some would even say spoiled), but I know enough of life to understand that it doesn’t’ always work that way. This can be extremely frustrating. But I realized, instead of focusing on the problem, I need to focus on the promise. The promise that God hears each one of my prayers — my cries — and He will provide all of my needs. And I will continue to judge God faithful.
In the meantime, whenever I feel like I can’t do ‘something’, or the struggle is too hard, or the problem too big, I will continue to speak victory into my life. I will remind myself that I am more than a conqueror. Saying, “I think I can, I think I can.”
Until Next Time,
