Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I hope you are having a great day so far. Remember, we are using this day to show ourselves some love! I thought long and hard about some ways I could show myself some love this year. A trip to the the spa? A shopping spree? Maybe getting my nails done? While all these sound great — and will happen eventually — I decided to keep it simple, by doing something that brings me joy.
I love to read. Yes, I was that kid in school that loved reading Wuthering Heights and Great Expectations in English Lit. Getting that Summer Reading list of required books to read before the new school year, one of the greatest birthday gifts ever. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating just a bit. But, I truly do love to read.
Then college happened, and finding time to read (for fun), became harder and harder to do. Since then, I’ve found it difficult to get back into the swing of things.
So this Valentine’s Day, I decided to take a trip to my local Barnes and Nobles, spending time browsing through their collections of books and music.
Fun Fact: I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn. Breakfast At Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady are two of my favorite movies. Another thing that I love about this classic beauty, is her timeless fashion. She’s definitely a fashion inspiration of mine: “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!”
I’m always on the lookout for a new book. This one by Sarah Knight caught my eye, “You Do You.” Its all about learning how to put your happiness first, and stop living life by the standards of others. This books seems right up my alley…have you read it before? Let me know what you thought in the comments.
Besides reading, I am a huge fan of music. I love all types of music, anything from Freddy Mercury to Kendrick Lamar — I love it all! So of course, I had to make a pit stop into the Barnes and Noble music section. A couple years ago I received a record player for Christmas…so I’m always on the hunt for new records to buy. I was surprised to see the large collection of vinyl records Barnes and Noble had on display.
I had to include this pic, because About Time is literally my favorite movie ever! It has such a great message of simply enjoying life, and cherishing the time you have with loved ones. I can almost cry just thinking about it. If you haven’t watched About Time, drop everything you’re doing and go watch it right NOW! It’s that good!
Last, but certainly not least, I had to make a stop in the Starbucks Cafe. I am obsessed with Starbucks, and it’s a treat every time I get to lounge in my local Starbucks. Now, don’t judge me…in my entire time of being a Starbucks customer, I’ve never had anything other than a coffee frappuccino. I’m a creature of habit, and once I find something that I love, I stick to it forever! But I’m open to trying new things…what’s your favorite Starbucks drink? What should I try next? Let me know in the comments!
And that’s how I celebrated myself this Valentine’s Day! Nothing fancy or too extravagant. I simply took the time doing something that I love, which is oh so important! Life can get so busy that sometimes we neglect to take time for ourselves. Spending time at my local Barnes and Noble, was just what I needed! How are you spending Valentine’s Day? I can’t wait to hear all about how amazing your day was.
Until Next Time,
